Things To Do

Most of the appealing places to stay, eat and drink, plus the finest beaches and St George’s, are all conveniently concentrated in the island’s south-west corner, so few journeys take more than 15 minutes by car from the house.

However, Grenada as a whole is a decent size – it’s nearly as big as the Isle of Wight – offering lots to see and do. A hike in the rainforest, which is now much recovered after the devastation wrought by Hurricane Ivan in 2004, is a must. Other prime activities include sailing, particularly around the protected bays of Grenada’s deeply indented south coast, and diving: as well as reefs and wrecks, there is a unique underwater sculpture park to explore.

Grenada is also an endearing, proud little nation. Driving around, you see kerbs and flower pots everywhere painted in the red, gold and green colours of the national flag, and billboards celebrating the achievements of the 400-metre runner Kirani James, who won Grenada’s first-ever Olympic gold medal at the 2012 Olympics.

The house has it’s own boats house at the beach and is equipped with hobie cats, kayaks, a dinghi and small rib.

Scuba diving and snorkelling:

Scuba diving and snorkelling are widely available along the beautiful Grenada coastline. Beneath the sparkling sea you can view extensive reef formations, a vast range of marine life, and several large shipwrecks offering top class and challenging diving.

Carnival:

Grenada carnival is the national event of the year, usually the second week in August.

Golf:

There is a basic nine hole Grenada Golf Course (near Grand Anse)

Grenada Workboat Regatta

raditionally, the local community racing calendar has been centred around key times of celebration and holiday: Easter; Whitsuntide; Fisherman’s Birthday (29 June – the Saint’s Day of St Peter & St Paul); Carriacou Carnival Regatta (August). In latter years these have been joined by ‘newer’ dates such as Thanksgiving (October – to mark the intervention of the USA in Grenada in 1983) and theGrenada Sailing Festival Work Boat Regatta (Every January since 1994). At the annual Grenada Sailing Festival Work Boat Regatta sailors take part from Grand Mal, Gouyave, Sauteurs and Woburn, plus Sister Islands of Carriacou and Petit Martinique – communities with a strong sailing and boat building heritage.

The event takes place at Grand Anse Beach.

Grenada Hash:

Every Saturday afternoon, Grenada’s Hash House Harriers assemble at a chosen rum shop somewhere on the island, then set off to run or walk through the bush following a trail of flour or shredded paper. They end back at the rum shop a couple of hours later. Island visitors are very welcome to join in: details on grenadahash.com.
